Begin the journey
Chapter 1 · The Unification War
It began in the cold north. Argon of Olde Agatha marched south with his hardened warriors and an iron will, and one by one the scattered kingdoms knelt to him. When the Unification War ended, every realm answered to a single king – and the Agathian Knights were born.
At Argon’s side stood his sharpest commander and closest friend, a soldier without a drop of noble blood: Malric.

Chapter 2 · The Crusade
Peace did not suit Argon. Restless, he declared a crusade against the strange lands beyond the southern desert: the empire of Tenosia. His army marched into heat it had badly underestimated.
Argon never came home. Tahar Rahman, the greatest blade of Tenosia, says he cut the king down himself. In the north, Argon’s daughter Soree had just given birth to Malric’s son, Valen. The news of her father’s death broke her, and she died days before Malric returned.

Chapter 3 · The First Civil War · the first Chivalry
With Argon gone, Feydrid Kearn took the throne as steward king and led those loyal to the old line. Malric refused to bow. He founded the Mason Order, rallied everyone the old nobility had kept down – and Agatha tore itself apart.
After years of sieges the loyalists made their last stand at Stoneshill and lost. Feydrid fell, his commander Barek Thorne was dragged away in chains, and the Agathian Royal Council bought peace with surrender. On the night of the assault, so the story goes, a small boy slipped away from an outpost nearby.

Chapter 4 · Twenty years of Mason rule
King Malric ruled from Trayan Citadel with an iron hand, advised by the High Forge – the Order’s inner council – and by the strange, brilliant Olar the Wise. He hardened the kingdom against the revenge he knew Tenosia would one day seek, and crushed every voice that spoke against him.
His son Valen grew up under the best blademasters in the land, desperate to be worthy of his father. And far away in Falmire, Barek Thorne spent twenty years in chains as a warning to anyone who might rise again – and never once bent.

Chapter 5 · The War of Reconquest · Chivalry 2
The boy from Stoneshill had survived. His tutor Kosmas Ironkiln led him through the wilds for weeks and smuggled him aboard a fishing boat under false names, all the way to Galencourt. There the monks of Arch Precept Gyeoff raised him in the arts of war and faith.
Twenty years later, as the kingdom drifted towards war, he stepped out of hiding as Argon II. The reformed Royal Council and the Church backed his claim, and from Thayic Castle he called the knights to take back the crown. His enemies ask why he appeared at exactly the right moment.

Chapter 6 · Now
While Agatha bled, Tenosia remembered. For twenty years the empire planned its answer to the crusade. Myah Vane clawed her way to power over the bodies of her own relatives and swore not to rest until the north was hers.
Now her armies strike Baudwyn’s Bulwark, the great wall that has kept the two worlds apart for centuries. Rumours speak of a devastating new technology. If the Bulwark falls, Agatha burns.

Birthright, faith and honour
Founded when Argon I united the realms. The knights are led by old noble houses from the wealthy provinces – devout, proud of their bloodlines and fiercely loyal. Their love of justice, gold and beauty has made them great, and sometimes foolish.
Crushed at the end of the first civil war, they march again under Argon II. After twenty years of defeat, more and more of them want to leave the old mercy behind.

A northern warlord who forced every ruler to kneel and founded one kingdom. Peace bored him, so he led a crusade south and died in the desert, leaving his kingdom as his legacy.
Young, fierce and hungry for battle. He says he fled as a child from near Stoneshill on the night of the assault, escorted by his tutor Kosmas Ironkiln, and grew up with the monks of Galencourt under Arch Precept Gyeoff.
Crowned at Thayic Castle with the blessing of the Church and the Royal Council, he leads the reconquest. His opponents doubt a claim that surfaced so conveniently on the eve of war.
Took command of the loyalists after Argon I fell. His brave but hopeless defence of Stoneshill ended the first civil war and began twenty years of Mason rule. Whispers that he never meant to give the throne back followed him to his grave.
A famed commander who fought beside Feydrid. Captured soon after Feydrid’s death, he was tortured and put on display for twenty years in Falmire – a warning to anyone who thought themselves Malric’s equal. He spat at the Order the whole time.
The head of the Church preaches peace and holds up the calm grazing animals as an example to a bloodthirsty people. Yet many believe his blessing is what lets the knights grow ever more brutal. From the monastery at Galencourt, his hundred hands carry his word across the land.
What was left of Agatha’s power when Feydrid fell. The seven surrendered to Malric in return for keeping Galencourt, Feydrid’s body and some rights for their regions. As the nobles grew restless under the Masons, the council re-formed and was already arming when Argon II arrived.

Strength above birth
Founded by General Malric after Argon I died on the crusade. The Order won the first civil war and has ruled ever since. Strength, discipline and ferocity drive everything it does.
Its fiercest supporters are the common folk who suffered most under the old nobility: in the Order, anyone strong enough can rise, whatever their birth or faith.
Values:StrengthDisciplineFerocity
Once Argon I’s right hand and best commander, now founder of the Mason Order and king of all the realms Argon united. Ruthless, cunning and quick to rage, he inspires both fear and respect.
His rule has one aim: make the kingdom hard enough to survive Tenosia’s revenge, and silence dissent at any cost. Some say he was gentler once, before fate twisted him.
Malric’s son by Argon I’s daughter. Born outside marriage, he carries “Tray”, the name Vantear gives its bastards. Trained by the finest blademasters and strategists, he burns to equal his father – who has ordered him to stay firmly in his shadow.
Daughter of Argon I and, as Malric tells it, his secret love. Pregnant when the army left for the crusade, she gave birth to Valen, learned of her father’s death soon after and died of grief and illness just before Malric came home. The affair had to stay hidden: Malric had no noble blood.
Weak in body, brilliant in mind – and, like many geniuses, prone to fits of madness and an unsettling fascination with rodents. Rumour says he does not love the Order at all, and may be a slave forced to put his genius to work for it.
Malric’s inner circle at Trayan Citadel, among the very few who may speak to him directly. Together they hammer his vision of a harder kingdom into shape.

Twenty years of patience
A refined empire of scholars in the dry lands of the south. Masters of engineering, city building and the stars, they turned the desert into riches and lived in long peace – until the crusaders came.
They won that war thanks to the heat as much as their swords. Since then they have spent twenty years preparing their revenge on the barbarians of the north.

In the chaos after the crusade she rose to the throne by having the relatives ahead of her killed. She knew Tenosia had won mostly because the invaders misjudged the desert – and that a rich, comfortable empire was easy prey.
Partly by persuasion, partly by making examples, she drove the nobility back into war. Her vow: no rest until the lands of the north belong to her.
Commander of the imperial army and the greatest warrior of Tenosia. He claims he killed Argon I in single combat, and the people love him for it. A man of few words and fast deeds, he is the queen’s right hand and her link to the army.
